Leeds United’s Ben White reacts to Eddie Nketiah’s recent Arsenal outing

Arsenal’s decision to keep Eddie Nketiah at the Emirates Stadium certainly came as a surprising one, given that the youngster is set to be down the pecking order in Mikel Arteta’s plans this season.

The young forward spent the first-half of this year’s campaign on loan with Leeds United in the Championship, but was restricted to just two league starts in his time with the Whites.

This seemingly didn’t sit well with Arsenal, who wasted no time in recalling him early from his loan spell at Elland Road.

It was originally thought that Nketiah would be heading straight back out on loan, with the likes of Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday being credited with interest for the young striker.

But after Arsenal’s recent transfer reveal, Nketiah made his first appearance of the season for the Gunners, as he replaced Alexandre Lacazette after 74 minutes in their 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

Nketiah took to Instagram following his recent outing, and expressed his delight on his return to the Emirates Stadium.

Former Leeds team-mate Ben White reacted to his social update, and was clearly keen to offer his support to the young Arsenal forward after his return to the Gunners.

Nketiah will be hoping he can continue to be involved in the matchday squad for Arsenal in their next game, when they take on Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

Leeds return to action on 28th January when they take on play-off chasing Millwall, in what could potentially be a tricky test for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The Verdict:

It’s good to see White still being in touch with Nketiah.

I wasn’t surprised to see the youngster return to Arsenal this month, as he simply wasn’t getting the game time he needed to further his development.

But I thought he would have gone out on loan again this season, as it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be a regular starter for Arsenal this term.

It’ll be interesting to see what Arteta has planned for Nketiah as the season progresses.
