Leeds United defender Barry Douglas has appeared to back boxer Tyson Fury's comments about how to stay motivated during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Fury has overcome some serious struggles with mental health during his career and returned to the top of his sport earlier this year when he defeated Deontay Wilder.

This morning, the boxer was asked on talkSPORT if he had any advice for people that were struggling to stay motivated during the current lockdown.

Fury suggested that motivation is all in the mind and that setting himself routine and short-term goals has been key for him.

His words appear to have resonated with Douglas, who retweeted them earlier today.

The Scotsman has had to keep himself very motivated during his time at Leeds as he has had some serious injury issues.

In addition to a number of smaller issues at other times, Douglas ruptured his knee ligament late last season and worked hard to get back in time for the start of the current season.

The 30-year-old has once again been hampered by injury problems in the current campaign and even when fit has struggled to cement a place in Marcelo Bielsa's first team.

The left-back has appeared just 11 times in the Championship this season and will no doubt be determined to force his way back into the starting XI when football returns.

The Verdict

Fury makes some interesting and, in some ways, inspiring comments here about staying motivated and it appears from his retweet the Leeds left-back has backed them.

It is no surprise that they have resonated with Douglas, given the amount of time he has spent recovering from injuries in recent years.

The defender has found his path back to the first team blocked by the hugely impressive performances of Stuart Dallas this year.
