Adam Forshaw has taken to Instagram to heap praise on former Middlesbrough teammate Lee Tomlin after he posted footage of a goal from earlier in the season with Cardiff City.

Having signed for Leeds United back in the January of 2018 from rivals Middlesbrough, Forshaw has seen a lot of success with the Teessiders since he joined in 2015.

The former Everton midfielder moved to the Riverside and linked up with Aitor Karanka to help the side towards the top end of the Championship table for the rest of that season. One of his teammates during that season was the technically gifted attacker Lee Tomlin, who was in the middle of his only season at Boro.

While that season didn’t prove as successful as hoped for Boro, they still managed a play-off final appearance against Norwich City, only to lose 2-0. The next season saw Tomlin depart the Riverside for the South Coast and AFC Bournemouth, a side that pipped Boro to promotion in 2014/15.

However, it would appear that the pair still remain close friends after a social media challenge gave Tomlin the chance to share one of his favourite goals and challenge friends to do the same, to which he nominated Forshaw.

Forshaw replied to the Instagram story praising the attacker for his talents:

Can you name Boro's first goalscorer from the past 16 seasons?

The verdict

Social media has a good way for people to remain active with friends amid the lack of footballing activity to watch each week.

As society edges closer to a lockdown, this challenge has been a good way for players to remain in touch and keep themselves entertained in testing times.

Tomlin’s goal that he shows off is from this season against West Brom, where his deft free kick floated over the wall and into the top corner, something that has been a trademark of his in recent years.

Due to his lack of goal-scoring touch, it might be tough for Forshaw to find a goal as sumptuous as Tomlin’s, but there’ll be a few in his archive.
