Leeds United weighing up transfer swoop for second tier striker

Published

on

Leeds United are interested in securing a deal for Carpi striker Jerry Mbakogu, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay on Twitter.

The 25-year-old forward has been in solid form for the Italian second tier side this season, bagging eight goals in all competitions, with his industrious play likely to appeal to Leeds boss, Thomas Christiansen.

The Nigerian linked up with Carpi in 2014 from Padova, making seventy-five appearances since making the switch almost four years ago.

Leeds are on the hunt for additional frontmen following a series of summer failings in the position, but Phil Hay reports that if any deal is to be agreed for the player, he will sign in the summer.

The Verdict

Mbakogu is a solid, if not prolific scorer, but his hard-working nature is something that will fit in with the ethos installed by Christiansen at Elland Road.

Fans may harbour doubts, with many calling for the club to open the checkbook and secure a top goal scorer in the mould of former man Chris Wood.

Mbakogu isn’t the type of player who will bag twenty-five goals per season, but he will represent an upgrade on the likes of Jay-Roy Grot.
