Leeds United are eyeing a move for 22-year-old centre back Alfie Mawson who is currently playing for Yorkshire rivals Barnsley, according to the Sun via the Daily Star.
Mawson has quite the goal threat for a centre back as well, scoring 7 goals in 48 games for Barnsley with the threat coming from his height at set pieces.
In the 2014/15 season he had a very successful spell at Wycombe where he helped them reach the League Two play-off final, and ended up winning the Player of the Year award at the age of 21.
Mawson seems to be improving every season, helping Barnsley win the Johnstones Paint Trophy last season, and the play-off final against Millwall.
Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino will hope installing former Barnsley chief executive Ben Mansford as Chief of Operations will help move the deal forward.
Garry Monk is keen to bolster his side as soon as possible and with Italian centre back Giuseppe Bellusci keen on a move back to Italy, they need some more options at the back.
