Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United are interested in signing forward Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian outfit Ituano in the summer, according to reports from TEAMtalk.
The 17-year old has been catching the eye after a string of impressive performances in South America, and is valued at a price of around £10million having emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the Brazilian leagues.
The striker, who started his career with Corinthians and scored over 200 goals at youth level, then went to have two trials at Premier League giants Manchester United in 2017, however a deal failed to materialise.
Reports from TEAMtalk claim that Premier League side Watford are interested in signing the talented attacker, with Middlesbrough also declaring an interest in the talented youngster – former Boro player Juninho runs Martinelli’s current club Ituano, and has informed the North East club of the player’s development.
Leeds currently sit 3rd in the Sky Bet Championship table, after easing past Bolton Wanderers by two goals to one on Saturday afternoon.
Martinelli looks to be a really exciting player on paper, and there is no reason why he cannot be a success at Elland Road.
Leeds have a plethora of talented youngsters in their ranks with the likes of Jack Clarke flourishing under Marcelo Bielsa this season, but Martinelli would definitely raise eyebrows at Elland Road due to his hefty price tag.
You feel that the Whites need another striker, as injuries can happen at the most inconvenient of times – as proven by Kemar Roofe’s injury this week.
