Sky Bet Championship league leaders Leeds United are interested in signing Dijon FCO midfielder Medhi Abeid, according to reports from French news outlet France Football.

The 26-year old has been a regular figure for the Ligue 1 side this term, scoring three goals in 13 games from midfield, but is out of contract at the end of this season.

The midfielder is no stranger to the English leagues, making 13 appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle United during a four-year stint with the club between 2011 and 2015 - enduring loan spells at St. Johnstone and Panathinaikos during his stay at St. James' Park.

The three-time international midfielder, who can play either out wide or through the middle, would be another exciting option for Marcelo Bielsa to explore, with Leeds needing strength in depth to further boost their push for promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites have lost three of their four games in the league, and currently sit one point clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table, after a 2-1 defeat to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

Abeid didn't really endure the best of times in England with Newcastle, but Leeds are clearly seeing something in Abeid that they like.

Leeds certainly need strengthening, and their midfield area is the perhaps the area that needs bolstering the most.

He can play either out wide or in central midfield, making him a very useful option for the Whites, who will be looking to bounce back immediately after a recent slump.
