Leeds United are yet to make a decision on the future of Yosuke Ideguchi, with the Japanese international not featuring yet under Marcelo Bielsa.

Ideguchi joined Leeds back in January, before spending the second-half of last season away from Elland Road on-loan with Cultural Leonesa in Spain.

That loan spell was frustrating, with Ideguchi then linking back up with Leeds and Bielsa at the start of pre-season.

The 21-year-old was involved in squads made up of under-23 players throughout pre-season, starting the 2018/19 campaign amongst that group of players also.

Bielsa hasn’t offered the midfielder a chance in the Sky Bet Championship or Carabao Cup, with Ideguchi missing out on selection last night, as Leeds beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the cup.

After the game, Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post provided an update from Bielsa, who confirmed no decision had been made on Ideguchi’s future, but by the end of the month, Leeds will have made the decision they feel is best for the player.

The window for permanent transfers closed last week, but the loan window remains open until August 31, allowing EFL clubs to trade with both ins and outs.

The Verdict

Ideguchi’s move to Elland Road hasn’t been a successful one, with the Japanese international really struggling for games.

The decision Leeds make in the next few weeks is going to be key.

Right now, a loan seems sensible, but Ideguchi could equally benefit from a year with Leeds’ under-23s, getting used to the club, if they see him having a future.
