Elland Road plays host to Leeds United’s clash with Bristol City this weekend, with Football League World set to bring you updates throughout the afternoon.
Leeds have managed to retain their place in the automatic promotion spots following a midweek draw with Brentford, but the division is closing in on them, with Bristol City only three points behind them despite sitting seventh in the table.
That means that this clash at Elland Road is even more significant, with fans of the home side seeing it as something of a ‘must not lose’.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side can take confidence from their draw with Brentford, though, with Leeds looking something like their best despite another Kiko Casilla howler that allowed Said Benrahma to put the Bees ahead.
As our graphic shows, Casilla will start again this weekend, with Leeds likely to be unchanged for the visit of the Robins, who head to Elland Road lifted by a midweek win over Derby County, which put the pressure on those (including Leeds) directly above them.
Lee Johnson may well make changes to freshen things up, though, with Nathan Baker potentially replacing Ashley Williams at centre-back.
By overlooking an Andi Weimann recall, Johnson has a combined 23 goals in his attack, with Famara Diedhiou and Nahki Wells leading the line. Admittedly, 13 of the latter’s goals came in a QPR shirt, but he’s a goal threat, just as Leeds learnt in their defeat to the R’s last month.
On the whole, this is quite an efficient Robins side, who have outscored Leeds this season, but there are clear weaknesses at the back, as Bielsa’s men found out on the opening day of the season, winning 3-1 at Ashton Gate.
Leeds’ defence is slightly tighter, but individual errors are costing them at the moment – mainly through Casilla – so there’s a good chance Johnson’s side will smell blood heading to Elland Road.
Nevertheless, an improved midweek display establishes Leeds as clear favourites on home turf, despite Bristol City’s league standing and potential to expose defensive frailties.
