Former Leeds United midfielder Michael Brown has urged the Whites to bring Jack Harrison back to Elland Road in the summer transfer window.

Harrison, who played an instrumental tole in helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side reach the play-offs last season, has again been one of Leeds’ most influential performers this term, after arriving at Elland Road on a second season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

The winger has been an ever present for Leeds in the Championship, and he has managed to provide a key attacking threat for the Whites managing to register five goals and provide six assists so far, although at times he has been guilty at times of missing a few presentable chances in the final third for the Whites.

Speaking to the Football Insider, Brown insisted that Bielsa will be wanting to keep hold of Harrison for next season, and suggested that the Whites should do all they can to secure an agreement with Manchester City to ensure he remains at Elland Road next term.

He said: "He’s developing, it obviously was a loan deal (last season), you’re thinking: What type of player are we going to get?

"Now, he’s really, really come on, he’s getting stronger and stronger. It’s one of those, once you start winning and you start getting a feel for it, your experience grows.

"You know when and why you made better decisions, he’s playing more. He seems to be really, really coming on. He’s one to watch.

"If he’s someone who’s playing week in, week out, he’s someone you’ll want in and around your squad, wherever that might be.

"It is a loan deal and it might not be in your control but when someone plays like he does, then I’m sure Marcelo Bielsa would love to have him in his squad for next season, for sure."

The verdict

Brown is right to suggest that Bielsa has a lot of faith in Harrison’s ability to make an impact for the Whites in the final third, with the winger having been one of the Leeds manager’s go to attacking players over the last two seasons at Elland Road – and he would likely be wanting to keep the forward in his squad for next term.

That could though very much depend on what league Leeds are playing in next season, with the Whites at the moment looking in a really strong position to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, and were they to be promoted it would be vital that Bielsa has as many attacking options as possible in his squad.

There is the potential argument that Harrison, whilst delivering strong performances in possession and with his work rate down the flanks, at times lacks that vital end product in the final when in really promising positions, and that is something that he will need to improve were he to be tasked with performing for the Whites in the Premier League.

Given Bielsa clearly trusts Harrison to play a key role within his system, it would be surprising were Leeds to go up and not pursue a permanent deal for the winger, and Harrison is likely to be keen to make his move a permanent one himself meaning the deal should be able to happen were they promoted.
