Leeds could make a move to permanently sign Liverpool winger Ryan Kent if Jack Clarke is sold in the summer transfer window, Goal have reported.

Liverpool have already turned down a loan move from Leeds for the winger, and are said to value Kent at around £12m.

Kent spent last season on loan with Scottish side Rangers, where he scored six goals in 43 appearances, and Leeds are keen to bring Kent to Elland Road as they prepare to compete for promotion again next season.

It has now been reported that they could be ready to move for Kent in a permanent basis if they are able to sell attacking midfielder Jack Clarke in the summer.

The Daily Mirror have reported that Leeds will value Clarke at around £20m, with Premier League side Tottenham among those thought to be interested in the 18-year-old, who made 25 appearances and scored two goals during his first season in senior football last season.

The verdict

This would be a smart move from Leeds.

The money they are expecting to get for Clarke would fund the signing of Kent, while also leaving funds available to be spent on other signings, if the reports around the valuations are to be believed.

This may not be a bad way of approaching things for Leeds.

While Clarke only has one season in senior football under his belt, Kent does have more experience in the Championship, having previously spent loan spells in the division with both Barnsley and Bristol City, and that along with his development at Rangers last season, could be a benefit for Leeds.
