The club looked set to bring in the stopper as both competition and cover for No.1 Marco Silvestri, who was a stand out performer for Leeds United last season.

The Whites have now ended their interest in Turnbull, who was made available for transfer by Barnsley as the Tykes look to trim their wage bill for the coming season. The 30-year old keeper will now be left in limbo as any deal to Elland Road looks dead in the water and his parent club also look like they want rid too.

Former Boro keeper Turnbull was seen as a good move by Leeds fans, who are wanting to see some experience added to their young squad with the second string goalkeeper position being vacated by veteran Stuart Taylor this summer.

Reports also suggest that Leeds have cancelled the trial of former Newcastle United stopper Jak Alnwick.

The 22-year-old had spent the week training with the first team, but Leeds have decided against offering the player a contract.

Although no reason has been stated, Alnwick's recent injury to his wrist could be a major factor. The player's season ended in early April after a wrist injury caused him to have surgery.

Although the club are clearly in the hunt for a new keeper, Leeds are in no major trouble to find one. The signing of young USA keeper Charlie Horton has ensured the club have two main keepers, with Horton being seen as one for the future.

As Leeds enter the transfer market again, the club look to be focusing on some areas more than others, often forgetting their lack of width and pace and the need to sign a left winger.
