Leeds United teenager Mateusz Bogusz will likely be sent out on loan to the Championship next season, according to former Whites forward Noel Whelan

The 19-year-old has spent the 2020/21 campaign out on loan in LaLiga2 with UD Logroñés, scoring once and adding one assist in his 18 appearances for the Spanish club.

Leeds have impressed in their first season back in the Premier League and look on course to extend their stay in the top flight beyond just one season, which means the Bogusz will likely have to go elsewhere for regular first-team football.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan has tipped the Whites to send the Poland U21 international out on loan to the Championship for the 2021/22 campaign.

He said: "I think a Championship loan move is the next step for him.

"You get that little bit of experience, you do well there and then you’re looking for your next challenge. Championship football would be a step up.

“It will be beneficial for him and it will be beneficial for Leeds. If he keeps showing that he can do it at different levels then he’s got the chance of proving he can do it at Premier League level.”

Leeds have sent a significant number of their young players out on loan this season, with the likes of Robbie Gotts and Jordan Stevens gaining experience in the EFL.

Bogusz, who joined the Whites in January 2019 and has featured three times for the senior side since, was linked with a move to Charlton in the summer but the club opted to send him elsewhere.

The Verdict

A loan move to the Championship would seem to make a lot of sense for Bogusz next season.

The 19-year-old looks like a talented player but given the Whites are near-certain to be playing Premier League football next term, it's hard to see him getting chances in Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The second tier is a good place for the attacking midfielder to hone his trade in English football and it would not be a surprise to see clubs lining up to take him on loan.
