Kevin Phillips has backed Leeds United to complete a deal for Birmingham City starlet Amari Miller, according to Football Insider.

It was Football Insider who revealed on Saturday that the Premier League club were in advanced talks over a deal for the 18-year-old starlet after breaking into the first team fold at St Andrews this season.

Leeds have put a real focus on signing the best young players from around the UK in recent years and will be hoping to provide the player with a pathway into the club's first team set-up in the next few years.

A midfielder by trade, Miller made five appearances for the Blues last season which has led to significant interest from Everton as well and according to Phillips, that level of interest is testament to the work that's being done by Birmingham's youth academy.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips said: "It’s unfortunate from a Birmingham point of view.

“They’ve produced some magnificent young players over the years and their academy is very, very good.

“If Leeds are in advanced talks with him then the kid’s a hot prospect.

“If he can follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham and Demarai Gray, then he will turn out to be a very shrewd signing.

“I would assume they might sign him and then get him back out on loan somewhere. Or, have him for a year to develop then get him out on loan.

“Leeds are obviously looking to the future as well as now.”

The verdict

This would be a great signing for Leeds United.

Birmingham City really have excelled in recent years when it comes to developing young talent with the likes of Jude Bellingham very much being the jewel in their academy's crown.

We've all seen how well he has done and it seems that Amari Miller could be the next player in line to become a future star.

If the Whites can pull it off then I'm sure they'll be incredibly happy, however I'm sure that the Blues will be slight aggrieved at losing another top young talent.
