Leeds United face Salford City in the first round of the EFL Cup at Moor Lane on Tuesday night and head coach Marcelo Bielsa faces a decision over who to start up front for the Whites.

Patrick Bamford is the most experienced striker at Elland Road, after last season's top scorer Kemar Roofe left the club to join Anderlecht last week.

Leeds were able to bring in Eddie Nketiah on a season-long loan from Arsenal on transfer deadline day, but the striker was left out of the squad for the draw with Nottingham Forest at Elland Road at the weekend.

There's a chance that Nketiah could make his debut for Leeds against Salford on Tuesday night, but one player who will be desperate for a chance to impress Bielsa is Ryan Edmondson.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a prolific season for Leeds' academy side last term, scoring 19 goals as Carlos Corberan's side won the Professional Development League title.

Edmondson has made two substitute appearances for the Leeds first team so far in his career - one against Birmingham City last season and one on the final day of the 2017/18 season against Queens Park Rangers.

Bielsa has shown throughout his time at Elland Road that he is prepared to give young players a chance in the first team and Edmondson will feel that he deserves another opportunity to prove himself for the senior side.

It seems only a matter of time before he gets another opportunity for the first team and the EFL Cup tie against Salford could be the perfect opportunity for him to make an impact.

The striker will be full of confidence after last season and his recent hat-trick for Leeds during pre-season.

It's an important game and one that Leeds will not want to lose, but it's also a chance for him to play without added pressure of playing in the Championship.

It will also give Bielsa a chance to rest Bamford ahead of the game against Wigan Athletic at the weekend, after striker played in both games against Bristol City and Nottingham Forest.

It will be interesting to see if Bielsa is prepared to give Edmondson a chance for Leeds against Salford.

There's a chance that he might opt to start Nketiah ahead of him, as he is more likely to play an important role for Leeds in the Championship this season.

Edmondson will no doubt be determined to get his chance for Leeds and if Bielsa does give him a start, it's so important that he takes it.
