Leeds United have a number of strong options available to them in attack this season, which has seen a lack of opportunities for one player in particular.

Ryan Edmondson was hugely impressive for the under 23's side last term, but is yet to be given a consistent run in the first-team under Marcelo Bielsa.

The young forward was recently called up to the England under 19's team for their game against Greece, and Edmondson opened his account on the international stage after just 55 minutes.

Speaking in an interview with Leeds' official website, Edmondson issued his thoughts on his debut goal for the Three Lions, and was pleased to get off the mark.

"To be able to score for your country in a game, and one that put us into the lead, was just crazy. At that point, I was just thinking of the team rather than my individual achievement. Now reflecting back on it, to put us 2-1 up and having my family there to enjoy it, it's something I'll keep with me, strive off, and use to work towards the next step."

The 18-year-old is keen to get further game time with England, and is hoping that he can build on this impressive showing when he returns to Leeds next week.

"Hopefully I can get a few more minutes under my belt, and fingers crossed, get another goal. Most of all though, I'm just wanting to get as much out of the training session as possible, so that I can take it back to Leeds, and kick on with the rest of the season."

The Whites are next in action on 15th September, when they take on Barnsley at Oakwell.

The Verdict:

I think he deserves a shot in the first-team this season.

Edmondson has really impressed me over the last few years, and I think Bielsa is making a mistake in not handing him more game time to further his development in senior football.

He's looked sharp whilst on international duty, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him being loaned out in January, especially if Bielsa doesn't play him in the first-team this season.
