Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has spoken of his joy at getting Marcelo Bielsa to sign a new deal with the club.

The Argentinian signed a new deal with the club which will see him continue his fine work at Elland Road so far, and Kinnear was quick to point out that he felt it was the most significant signing of the summer.

"Absolutley. He's the most significant signing. It wasn't a difficult conversation. He's committed, he know's there's unfinished business to do." Kinnear told Sky Sports, via a report from Leeds Live.

"He's disappointed that we just fell short last season but he has absolutely the belief that he knows precisely what to do to make sure we get it right this year."

Kinnear was speaking regarding the upcoming season for the club, with the players set to return to pre-season training on Monday with no new faces to welcome, and uncertain futures surrounding the likes of Jack Clarke and Kalvin Phillips.

The Leeds chief though was bullish in his comments, as he backed the current squad to have enough within it to once again challenge at the right end of the table and potentially win promotion back to the Premier League.

"They came very close. We believe they deserved to go up so we have absolute confidence in the squad, but as always we're looking for opportunities to strengthen that squad and if those opportunities come along we'll take them." he added.

Leeds are looking to strengthen the ranks it seems, with big name signings already linked to the club with over a month to go unitl the new campaign kicks off. Marcelo Bielsa will be keen to ensure he gets the right players in, and will no doubt put full trust in Kinnear to get any deals over the line.

The Verdict

Kinnear speaks very well, it has to be said, and it's easy to see why Leeds are doing well with someone like him running the show.

He clearly loves Bielsa while having the respect of the Argentinian manager too.

If Leeds can add one or two as he mentions, then with the current squad still intact, there is every chance they can achieve their goal next season.

Whether that squad remains fully intact though, is another question entirely.
