Leeds are preparing another bid for Brentford's Romaine Sawyers amid interest from West Brom and Celtic, report Football Insider.

West Brom appeared to be the frontrunners for the playmaker after it emerged today that they had submitted a bid for the 27-year-old, only for the Bees to reject their £2.2m offer.

Brentford are still holding out for £3m, and with three clubs interested they may have sparked a bidding war.

It is possible that The Baggies' interest in the midfielder has caused Leeds to make an approach due to being fearful of missing out on a player whom Marcelo Bielsa rates very highly.

With only a year remaining on his contract it looks likely he will depart Griffin Park this summer, but the club has so far done well to stick to their asking price, which is quite considerable given his contract situation.

However, he has become an important player for the Bees in recent years, and has made 135 appearances since joining in 2016. He would add much-needed creativity to both West Brom and Leeds, and it will be interesting to see how this transfer develops.

The Verdict

There now seems to be a real battle on for Sawyers between two promotion-chasing clubs, and it will be very interesting to see where he ends up, as it may give an indication as to which club Sawyers favours for promotion.

However, he began his career at West Brom so could be tempted by a move back there, and he is also more likely to become a first-team regular at The Hawthorns given Leeds' strength in his position.

It will depend on which club matches his valuation, but if both do then he could still make the move to Leeds. Bielsa is a very appealing manager to play for and with promotion in sight it could be a great project to be part of.
