Leeds United's number one goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has highlighted how good it is for him to be playing international football.

The young stopper, who played in Northern Ireland's 0-0 draw with the Republic this past week, has praised the the likes of Jonny Evans, who plays in front of him in central defence at international level.

"It was good to get a clean sheet. For myself and the rest of the team it is always nice to not concede," Peacock-Farrell told the Belfast Telegraph.

"We have a great team and it's fantastic for me to be playing behind experienced players like Jonny Evans and Craig Cathcart."

The Leeds 'keeper has been thrust into the limelight this season with new Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa opting to select him as his number one from the beginning of the campaign. However, a series of mistakes have led for some Leeds fans to call for a change in the sticks, although an injury to Jamal Blackman appears to have given 'BPF' a reprieve for now.

But nevertheless, it's been quite the education for the young goalkeeper, and he is clearly enjoying playing for his country when he can.

"I'm really enjoying being part of the Northern Ireland squad and am relishing the opportunity that I'm being given." he added.

Peacock-Farrell will be hoping Bielsa keeps faith with him going forward into the winter and new year as Leeds look to seal a return to the Premier League.

The verdict

Despite his mistakes, Peacock-Farrell will be relishing all the experience he is getting, especially at international level.

It can only be good for him, and in goalkeeping terms, he is essentially a baby.

Peacock-Farrell should get better, but if he doesn't, it will be quickly picked up and Bielsa will quickly show him the door if he's not up to standard.
