Leeds United's promising midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has vowed to put the club's needs ahead of his own this season as he settles into life under new coach Marcela Bielsa.

The 20-year old played 25 times in the Championship last season in an ultimately disappointing campaign for the whites, but he's focused on the task in hand and has spoken of putting 'side before self' in the upcoming season.

“The target for me is to do my best and improve under the new manager,” Vieira told the Yorkshire Post. “I want to help the team as much as I can, achieve what we want to achieve this season and maybe get a few goals."

Vieira played 90 minutes of the Whites 1-1 draw with York City this week, seemingly part of the 'B' team after the first team's 2-1 win against Forest Green 24 hours earlier. If that is the case, Vieira is happy to put the needs of the manager first.

“Everyone wants to be involved but we’re a team, you know? The message for this season is like side before self. I’ll play where he tells me to play and it’s the same with everyone else."

Vieira is capped up to England U21 level and has been linked with a move to Cardiff City this summer, although no firm offer has materialised.

The Verdict

Vieira is a special talent, one of the only bright sparks from last season's debacle. as a 20-year old it won't be easy to impose himself on the first team set up, but a willingness to take a back seat when asked will benefit the squad.

Of course, if he impresses in training and takes his chances when they come, there's no reason he can't be a big part of the manager's plans in 2018/19.
