Leeds United’s Chris Wood believes Garry Monk can turn him into a Premier League success, similar to his former teammates Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy, reports the Sun.

Monk’s Leeds side are in the hunt for a first Premier League return since 2004, currently sitting fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Wood has been key to Leeds’ success this season, scoring 23-goals across all competitions, including 20 in the league.

The New Zealand international believes Mauricio Pochettino and Claudio Ranieri’s backing of strikers like Kane and Vardy is key to their recent performances in the top-flight.

Vardy famously won the Premier League with Leicester City last season, and both he and Kane represented England at Euro 2016.

Wood spent time with Kane and Vardy at Leicester, and has high praise for the pair, he told the Sun: “They were both great guys and I got on really well with them both.

“Jamie is a great player who always had good pace and a great work ethic, whereas Harry had the technique.

“You could see that from day one, his right and left foot technique was unbelievable.”

If Leeds are to eventually get back to the Premier League, Wood is confident Monk will be able to deliver similar results to Pochettino and Ranieri, he continued:

“It’s one of the key components to why the team and I are playing well, having that belief from the manager and from the team as well. It gives you an air of confidence.

“With the confidence and backing that the manager and players have given me here, I believe that I can no doubt do a job in the Premier League.”

The striker scored the decisive goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, which moved Leeds eight-points clear of seventh placed Fulham in the Championship table, strengthening their grip on a place in the top-six.

Monk’s side will be hopeful Wood can continue his scoring form on Friday night, when Leeds go up against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.
