Kalvin Phillips has issued a positive update on his future, saying he wants to get Leeds United 'back where they belong'.

The midfielder has been a virtual ever-present for Marcelo Bielsa's side as they look to mount a challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Things are going well for Leeds United who currently sit in second place in the Championship.

A key part of that has been the 23-year-old who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, however Phillips has said that he wants to stay at Elland Road.

Speaking to Sky Sports' EFL Podcast, he said: "If people are talking about you it’s either for a good thing or a bad thing and I know that I’m not doing anything bad at the moment so it’s obviously good that people are talking about me.

"I’ve got a lot of Leeds fans tweeting me and on Instagram asking me when I’m going to play for England, I just take it as a pat on the back and a compliment, it fuels me to do even better.

How much do you know about Kalvin Phillips? Let's find out!

“People are bringing up these big money moves, which obviously I don’t want because I want to be at Leeds, but it’s obviously a good thing for me because I’ve got a lot of people speaking highly of me, a lot of ex-footballers speaking highly of me, people that I’ve never spoken to and don’t really know so it’s very good.

“I’m in a good situation right now so hopefully I can carry it on and get Leeds back where they belong."

The verdict

While Kalvin Phillips' good form has been a real positive for Leeds United, it's nothing compared to him committing his future.

The 23-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in English football and to be linked with clubs like Manchester United is a huge compliment.

That said, for Phillips to commit his future to Marcelo Bielsa's side is a testament to how much he believes in the Yorkshire club's hopes of securing promotion.
