Chris Wood believes Leeds United are finally looking like “one of the best sides in the league,” reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds currently sit third in the Sky Bet Championship, after a 1-0 win over play-off hopefuls Derby County in their last match.

Wood scored the only goal of the game from Pablo Hernandez’s corner, the header was his 17th goal of the season, and moved Leeds eight-points clear of seventh placed Derby.

The New Zealand international is in his second season at Elland Road and has already bettered his goal tally from 2015/16.

12-months ago Leeds were clinging onto hope of a play-off push but this year are leading the chasing pack for automatic promotion, Wood said: “We had great quality last year but I think we’ve added to it superbly this year.

“The boys who’ve come in have taken the squad to another level and we’re finally looking like we’re one of the best sides in the league. We can take on anybody. We know that and we’re confident in that sense.”

Wood has previous experience of promotion from the Championship, he scored four goals in Leicester City’s 2014 title winning season.

The striker called for his side to not get complacent with their league position, and ignoring the bigger picture was the best thing the club could do, as they look for a Premier League return.

Leeds face Barnsley in a Yorkshire derby on Saturday evening, where they will hope to put more pressure on Newcastle and Brighton.
