Liam Cooper has revealed that Marcelo Bielsa delivered an emotional message to his Leeds United squad during their break from training at the club’s Thorp Arch training base.
Leeds have seen their push for automatic promotion put on hold as public safety takes priority, with a ball not kicked in the Championship for almost three months now.
And, during the first-team’s period of isolation, Cooper has revealed that Bielsa sent an emotional message to the squad, despite the fact they have had little contact with the 64-year-old.
Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?
Speaking to Leeds Live, Cooper revealed: “Very little directly with the situation.
“We had a nice video off him maybe two or three weeks ago telling us to stay in shape and do things right and have a thought for the frontline workers and what people are doing for us around the country.
“All the lads got that to watch and hopefully we’ll get to see him a bit more in the coming weeks.”
There was a return to training for Leeds yesterday, with Bielsa’s squad back in the building at Thorp Arch and pushing on for a resume date.
Nine games separate Bielsa’s side and the Premier League, with Leeds hoping they can cash-in on a commanding position in the table and secure top-flight football for the first time since 2004.
Bielsa is such an interesting man and you can fully imagine him relaying this message to his Leeds United squad.
In his two years at Leeds, Bielsa has made the squad a better group in terms of their footballing ability, but maybe their outlook on life too.
Cooper and co buy into all his methods and it has been rewarding.
