Leeds United have been somewhat of a marvel so far this season, with Marcelo Bielsa transforming the club from a frequent laughing stock over the last few years to one of the most admired in the country.

The notorious Argentinian arrived in the summer and fans were immediately excited about the inevitable overhaul in the remaining months of the transfer window.

But that is not what they got.

Instead, Bielsa carefully tweaked his squad, strengthening only in areas that truly needed it in order to have a strong enough matchday squad.

The former Lille manager is known for his desire to only work with a fairly small squad and that is what he attained at Elland Road.

He turned players who looked like nothing more than failed transfer punts last season into some of the Championship's best this season, with Mateusz Klich being the obvious example.

But, the English second tier is a vastly different experience to that of a Ligue 1 season.

The Saturday-Tuesday match pattern means that a bigger squad is essential for success. Bielsa's model is working well now, but come February and March when the games are coming thick and fast, they will start to struggle.

New faces will be needed in January.

Who?

The Whites' defence seems to be their biggest area of weakness at the moment.

Against Brentford last week, winger Stuart Dallas was forced to operate as a left-back in the absence of Barry Douglas with both Kalvin Phillips and Jamie Shackleton having to fill in at centre-back on multiple occasions.

A great option is lying in wait across the county at Barnsley.

The man in question is 23-year-old centre-back Liam Lindsay. The Tykes have a real eye for a defender with John Stones and Alfie Mawson both coming through the squad at one point or another and Lindsey looks set to be the next in line.

He moved to Oakwell last summer and has already proven himself to be a Championship quality centre-back last season.

Lindsey is the man to solve the Elland Road depth crisis.
