Garry Monk’s resignation at Leeds United has left a lot of holes that need to be filled in the coming months, with a replacement now on the agenda of new owner, Andrea Radrizzani, just days after he completed his takeover of the club.

There are now question marks over the direction Leeds will take during the summer transfer window and who the new head-coach will want to bring to Elland Road.

One player Leeds and Monk had been planning to bring back to West Yorkshire was Kyle Bartley, who had been a colossus on-loan from Swansea City during the 2016/17 campaign.

Bartley made 50 appearances for the Whites, scoring six goals in the process, however, Leeds’ chances of bringing the 26-year old back to Elland Road now seem slim after Monk’s resignation.

Leeds must look for a replacement, with Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson set to be the only senior central defenders at Elland Road heading into pre-season.

One player Leeds could look to is Grant Hanley, who has been made available for a transfer from Newcastle United, following their promotion to the Premier League.

The 25-year old has bags of experience in the Championship from his time at Ewood Park, where he captained Blackburn Rovers for large parts of his career in Lancashire.

Hanley has been used sparingly at St James’ Park this season, but still cost Newcastle £5.5m last summer when he signed from Blackburn on a lengthy contract, meaning he would not come cheap.

However, Leeds will have to spend big if they are to replace the quality that Bartley showed at Elland Road last season, and a player of Hanley’s experience could be an excellent replacement.
