Leeds United need to start getting some deals over the line this summer, with Marcelo Bielsa’s squad looking thin at this stage of pre-season.

One area that needs strengthening is Leeds’ goalkeeping department, with Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan departing, leaving Bailey Peacock-Farrell as the only goalkeeper at Elland Road with first-team experience.

He is only 22 and desperately in need of competition to take some pressure off him.

David Stockdale has been heavily linked, whilst Jamal Blackman and Angus Gunn offer an alternative.

However, Leeds don’t appear to be making progress, with not one of their targets landed.

One player they could turn to is Keiren Westwood, Sheffield Wednesday’s first choice goalkeeper.

Westwood, 33, has a wealth of experience, having made over 450 club appearances, as well as earning caps for the Republic of Ireland.

The goalkeeper missed a lot of last season through injury, with Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson stepping in and impressing.

This summer, we are learning that Wednesday will sell for the right price, with Jack Hunt leaving for Bristol City late last week.

Leeds could tempt their Yorkshire rivals with an offer, whilst Wednesday could well accept, knowing they have two promising young goalkeepers coming through.

It hasn’t quite happened for Leeds this summer and it looks like they will have to work a bit harder in their quest to sign a goalkeeper.

Shifting their attention to a player like Westwood could be an extremely shrewd move.
