With Leeds agonisingly missing out on the Championship playoffs this season, a busy transfer window is to be expected.
One area that Garry Monk definitely needs to strengthen is more players with an eye for goal. Chris Wood may have provided the firepower for Leeds this campaign with 27 goals, however outside of the New Zealand forward Souleymane Doukara and Kyle Bartley were Leeds next top scorers on six goals, showing that if Leeds are to keep Wood he needs some attacking support.
Barnsley’s Marley Watkins, who is currently valued at 850k on transfermarkt, would be a ideal fit into Garry Monk’s system.
Watkins has showed he’s got what it takes in the Championship, playing a crucial role in the Tykes rise up the Championship table following their promotion from League One last year.
Contributing 10 goals and seven assists in his first Championship outing shows how comfortable he is, and would certainly add more goals for Leeds if they were to sign him.
His ability to play down either flank as a winger or inside forward will not only provide a more attacking threat and width to Monk’s side, but he has the power to create even more chances for striker Wood, as well as a eye himself for a goal will surely lift Leeds further up the table next season.
Even better for the Yorkshire side, the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle man has just turned down a new deal at Oakwell, and will be available on a free transfer.
