Kyle Bartley has emerged as Leeds United’s top transfer target this summer, as the Whites look to put together a squad capable of challenging for promotion again in the Sky Bet Championship.

Securing the 27-year-old ahead of next season and partnering him with Pontus Jansson in the heart of defence is going to be key for Leeds, however, other deals need to also be targeted.

Here at FLW, we believe Leeds still need to add another option in central defence and should look to hijack Sheffield Wednesday’s move for Frederico Venancio.

Venancio has just spent the year on-loan with Sheffield Wednesday, making 25 appearances across all competitions during his debut year in English football.

The 25-year-old adapted slowly to life at Hillsborough, but became a firm favourite after a string of excellent performances towards the end of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday are weighing up a permanent move for the centre-back, who according to the Sheffield Star, is available at just £800K.

The form Venancio has shown in South Yorkshire should be enough to interest a club like Leeds, and adding the reported asking price, the defender’s signature would come as a bargain.

The bulk of Leeds’ defensive budget will be spent on adding Bartley at Elland Road, therefore, not leaving much left in the bank to spend on another centre-back, with other positions a priority.

Venancio’s reported fee is a snippet for a defender who has a year of Championship experience under his belt, which should mean there is more interest across the division.

Leeds could do far worse than adding the 25-year-old to their defensive options this summer, as Venancio could be the perfect back-up to Jansson and Bartley over a 46-game season.
