Leeds United have today announced that the funds for young Whites fan Toby Nye’s Neuroblastoma treatment have successfully been raised.

The five-year old is suffering from a rare form of cancer and the treatment required was not routinely available on the NHS.

A £200,000 target was set and the Yorkshire club did a lot to help the family raise the money, including staff and players donating a day’s salary and further contributions from owner Andrea Radrizzani.

They also dubbed the game against Sheffield United ‘One Day for Toby’ as they looked to raise awareness about what was needed.

All in all, that helped raise £175,000 to go towards his treatment and the final amount was made up by current Leeds star Samuel Saiz.

The club revealed he had donated £25,000 a few days ago which means the youngster can begin his treatment next week. Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear revealed just how pleased he was with everyone’s efforts to help the youngster. “I am incredibly proud of everyone concerned.”

Toby and his family will be attending Saturday’s game against Millwall at Elland Road where they will no doubt thank everyone involved for their generosity.

The Verdict

This is amazing news and everyone connected with Leeds, particularly Samuel Saiz, deserves huge credit for what they have done here.

It was a massive effort from the club, fans and players and they should all be proud of what they’ve managed to raise for Toby.

Obviously, stories like this put football into perspective and now everyone will be wishing Toby all the best as his treatment begins.
