Championship sides Leeds United and Wolves are in the hunt for Manchester United youngster Ashley Fletcher to bolster their forward lines for next season, according to the Daily Star which cites reports from the MEN and the Express and Star.
Jose Mourinho has some big decisions to make as Manchester United manager this summer, and one of his first tasks will be to convince the highly rated 20-year-old forward that his future lies at Old Trafford. According to the Star, Fletcher has been offered a new deal at the club but it is yet to signed.
The promising striker, who has appeared for England at youth level, impressed on loan at Barnsley last year where he helped the Oakwell club to promotion back to the Championship – he also made a name for himself by scoring in both the League One playoff final and the Johnstone’s paint trophy final.
Should Fletcher stay with United it’s believed Barnsley are keen to secure him on loan for another season.
However, Leeds United appear to be waiting in the wings to swoop in if Fletcher decide on a permanent new start away from the confines of Old Trafford, while Wolves may also compete for his services.
With his route to the first team at Manchester United blocked by the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, wonderkid Marcus Rashford and the potential arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic; Fletcher may well feel that his development could be better served by first team football at Championship level.
Leeds fans, what do you think? Would he be a good fit at Elland Road? Barnsley fans, do you want to see Fletcher back in your colours again next season? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
