According to reports from Turkish media outlet Fotomac, Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United could be set to reignite interest in Besiktas winger Jeremain Lens.

The winger is known mostly for his turbulent spell with Sunderland, where he scored four goals in 24 appearances for the Black Cats before leaving for Besiktas at the beginning of this season, after their relegation to League One.

But the 31-year old has been given a new lease of life in Turkey, scoring four goals in 27 games for the Super Lig outfit.

Lens is a player that Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds have tracked since the January transfer window - scouts were believed to be present at Besiktas' 3-2 win in the Europa League over Sarpsborg, where the Dutchman netted twice.

And with the player facing an uncertain future at present, reports from Turkish media outlet Fotomac claim that Leeds could be set to reignite interest in Lens, if he is not willing to accept a pay cut in Turkey.

Besiktas could be set to place Lens on the transfer list, should the player refuse to take a pay cut in the region of €650,000 across a three-year period.

After losing 2-1 at home to 10-men Wigan Athletic at the weekend, Leeds are back down to 3rd in the Championship table, with just three games left to play this term.

The Verdict

I think that Leeds definitely need to strengthen their wide areas in the summer, but I also think that there are better options out there than Lens.

There is no doubting that he is an established, talented player, but he is 31 years of age and it seems as if he could cost a lot in terms of wages.

I think Leeds fans would rather see the club move in for Harry Wilson, or even look to re-sign Jack Harrison next season.
