Leeds United are set to reject any loan offers for teenage striker Ryan Edmondson in the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young talents at Leeds and scored 19 goals for the Whites' under-23 side in all competitions last season.

The centre-forward was the subject of interest from League One and League Two clubs during the recent summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa was prepared to allow Edmondson to leave on loan at one point during the window, but then changed his mind.

The Leeds boss believes Edmondson is capable of challenging for a place in the first-team squad this season and sees him as back-up to his two first-choice strikers Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah.

Edmondson scored a hat-trick for Leeds during pre-season, but has only made two competitive appearances for the first team so far in his career.

The centre-forward has not been included in the matchday squad for Leeds so far this term, but has featured regularly for their under-23s.

The Verdict

Bielsa has shown throughout his time at Leeds that he's prepared to give young players a chance and I think it's only a matter of time before Edmondson gets another opportunity in the first team at Elland Road.

He's a very talented footballer and he could have a big future ahead of him at Leeds.

Sending him out on loan could be a good option for the player, as it would allow him to experience regular first-team football, but if this report is true, Bielsa obviously feels that the striker is already good enough to make the step up to the first team if needed.
