Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson joined Fleetwood Town on a season-long loan deal early in the summer transfer window.

However, the 20-year-old has struggled to make much of an impact at Highbury, with The Cod Army enduring a difficult start to the campaign.

He has predominantly been used on the bench, starting just four games and adding a further five from the bench.

He is yet to score a league goal for the third-tier club yet, but he has found the back of the net twice in the EFL Trophy, with those strikes coming against Barrow and Leicester City U23s.

According to Football Insider, Edmondson is set to have his contract at Fleetwood terminated in January.

It remains to be seen if additional game time at Highbury could result in Leeds changing the stance.

The verdict

Edmondson has plenty of potential, and there is no denying that he can go on to enjoy an excellent career with Leeds.

However, it is a move that has not really worked for any party thus far, and with Fleetwood operating in the relegation zone at the moment, it is likely that they will be reluctant to give younger players a chance.

That could all still change, and if he is able to score a couple and get a run of starts, then Leeds may be forced into reversing their decision.

If Leeds do decide to terminate his loan spell with Fleetwood, then it will be interesting to see if they send him out elsewhere.
