Leeds United are set for a move for Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson, according to WhatCulture.

Williamson is a target for Leeds United

Williamson is seemingly open to a move to a Championship club and looks to be heading out of the door at St. James Park, having been accused by former interim boss John Carver of getting himself “deliberately” sent off during the 3-0 loss at Leicester City in May.

The former Watford, Portsmouth and Wycombe Wanderers defender was part of a horrific Magpies defence who conceded 63 goals in the Premier League last season, resulting in being the second highest in the top flight.

The 31-year-old made 31 appearances in the Premier League this season and scored on 1 occasion but with Steve McClaren's appointment, the club may let him leave to provide some money for new recruits with one year left on his contract.

Leeds boss Uwe Rosler is looking to strengthen his defence and has identified Williamson as possible targets alongside free agent Gareth McAuley and Leicester's Liam Moore on loan.
