Leeds United are set to sign Illan Meslier on a permanent deal in the summer, providing they win promotion into the Premier League this term according to The Mirror.

It is claimed that the Whites will pay a fee in the region of £6m to land his signature permanently, with his recent performances catching the eye for the right reasons.

Meslier signed on loan from French side Lorient in the summer of 2019 to provide competition for Kiko Casilla in the 2019/20 league campaign.

The youngster has often been Marcelo Bielsa's second choice goalkeeper, but has been a reliable option to call upon when needed at various points of the season.

The Frenchman has been called into the starting XI in recent matches as well, with Casilla being hit with an eight-game ban for using racist language towards an opponent earlier this term.

Meslier has kept two clean sheets in his two league starts for Leeds this season, and will be hoping that he can pick up where he left off when they return to action.

Due to recent events, Leeds aren't due back in action until the 2nd May, when they take on relegation-threatened Charlton Athletic at Elland Road, although that scheduled return date could be pushed further back if the off-the-field crisis is to worsen in the coming weeks.

The Verdict:

I think this is the right decision.

Meslier has really impressed me since he came into the Leeds starting XI, and I firmly believe that he's a good enough option to have between the posts to challenge Kiko Casilla for this starting spot in Bielsa's squad.

He's got age on his side, and has certainly made a good impression on plenty of the Elland Road faithful since his arrival in the summer of 2019.

If Leeds are to win promotion, then it should be a no-brainer for the Whites to make Meslier's loan deal a permanent one at the earliest of opportunities.
