Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United are set to sign Motherwell winger Stuart McKinstry.
The teenager, who is still only 16 and yet to make an appearance for the Scottish side, has been attracting admiring glances from a host of clubs and according to the Scottish Sun, the Whites have won the race to sign him.
McKinstry, who can play on either wing and is highly rated north of the border, is expected to join Leeds in a deal which could be worth up to £400,000 to the Scottish club with incentive and compensation payments.
Leeds are looking to snap up the top young talent around the UK and manager Marcelo Bielsa is not averse to using young players either as he has shown with Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton this term, meaning a move to Elland Road could make sense for the young Scot.
The Whites sit in third place in the Championship after not playing today and seeing Sheffield United and Norwich record 4-0 wins over Reading and Bolton respectively.
The signing of McKinstry in the summer would represent a big coup for the club, with Southampton one of the clubs mentioned as a team Leeds are pipping to the signing of the winger.
This is a shrewd piece of business by Leeds and just shows they remain a massive draw in the English game.
We’ve seen little of McKinstry really but we know he is a talent, and with Leeds and Bielsa pushing young talent into the first team, this is a move which makes all kind of sense.
