Leeds United and Paul Heckingbottom look set to be boosted by Tyler Roberts’ return this weekend, with the forward potentially in-line for a debut this weekend against Bristol City.

According to Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post, Roberts returned to training at the back end of last week, which seemingly puts him in contention to play Bristol City at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

Roberts was a deadline day arrival at Elland Road, with the young forward arriving at Elland Road from West Bromwich Albion, however, injury has prevented him from making his Leeds debut in recent weeks.

However, Heckingbottom could be boosted by the 19-year-old’s return in the coming week, with Roberts back training head of Sunday’s visit of Bristol City.

Heckingbottom could hand Roberts an Elland Road debut for Leeds, who are still searching for their first victory since Boxing Day.

Leeds have slipped out of the top-six in that time, with Heckingbottom now facing a mammoth battle to get his side back into play-off contention.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United left Leeds eight points adrift of the top-six and in 11th.

The Verdict

Roberts’ deadline day arrival was greeted with optimism at Elland Road, and it has been disappointing that the striker hasn’t been in action yet.

Leeds need some more firepower at the top of the field, and Roberts’ return is a welcome boost for Heckingbottom.

Leeds need results quickly, and although it is too early to say if Roberts will be the man to turn Leeds’ season around, he will certainly improve their chance of success.
