Leeds United and Derby County are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Barry Bannan, according to the Sun.
The Scotland international was told last month that he was no longer needed by the club, and was not included in their pre-season trip to South Africa.
He managed just 23 appearances for the Eagles after joining from Aston Villa in September 2013 and spent the second half of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, playing 16 times for the Trotters.
The 25-year-old had loan spells with both clubs during his time at Aston Villa.
He spent three months with Derby at the back of the 2008/09 season, making 10 appearances for the Rams, and did the same with Leeds two years later where he played seven times.
Bannan would bring plenty of Championship experience to either side, having also played for Blackpool during the 2009/10 season. He made 22 appearances for the Tangerines and helped them reach the Premier League.
Both Leeds and Derby will be vyimg for a coveted top six spot in the Sky Bet Championship this season, and the addition of Bannan would help bring on board experience, and a touch of Premier League class that could prove pivotal.
