Leeds United are eyeing a move for Moss

The club have today approached Celtic head scout David Moss as a potential candidate to take over the role of sporting director at Elland Road, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Moss has joined a list of prospective targets to join the staff at Elland Road as the club look to revitalise the back room staff.

The Celtic head scout has apparently already been in contact with Leeds United about the position earlier this week.

Moss has been with Celtic since 2010, initially with the academy and now leads the Scottish sides scouting network.

Prior to his move to Celtic, Moss held roles with Crystal Palace and Swansea in the academy after retiring as a player in 2003. He had turned out for clubs including; Doncaster, Chesterfield and Swansea.

This news proves that current sporting director Nicola Salerno will be out of a job even though his contract is set to run for another 12 months. Salerno initially came to Leeds after Cellino gained control of the club.

Salerno is still embroiled in the uncertainty of why assistant Steve Thompson was suspended by the club, with the 58-year-old distancing himself from the club since he sanctioned the suspension.

Owner Cellino has since confirmed rumours that Salerno has resigned from his role at the club following the controversy, yet the Italian is still on the books at Elland Road but residing in Italy.

His role at Leeds United was to deal with player transfers and he had overseen 15 players joining the club in the summer.

Other alternatives to Moss are currently being courted by Leeds United, but the experience at his level could be a real boost to Leeds United's thread bear back room staff.
