Leeds United secure agreements with influential duo

Published

on

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United have enjoyed an imperious start to their Championship season with the Yorkshire based club picking up 13 points from a possible 18 out of their first six games this season.

Two of Leeds standout performers this season have been club captain Liam Cooper and winger come full back Stuart Dallas, with both players being ever presents this season in their side’s run to third place in the table.

It is their presence and consistency within Bielsa’s starting XI that has made them firm fan favourites amongst the Elland Road faithful, with both players showing their adaptability to the Argentine’s demands, which is testament to the duo, given that they have played a lower intensity brand of football under previous managers in their career.

And Leeds’ supporters will be chuffed at the news that both players have now committed their immediate futures to the Elland Road club by signing new contracts, in what has been a hat-trick of new deals for the club, with fellow key player Kalvin Phillips also signing on earlier this week.

Both have been in superb form so far this season, with Cooper recording the most clearances in the Leeds squad this season, averaging four per game and Dallas racking up a passing success rate of 80.6%, whilst recording an average of 56.8 passes per game, putting amongst the most productive in the United squad.

With both players fitting Bielsa’s 4-1-4-1 possession based style, that is based on accurate short passing out from the back, it seems like a no brainer for the club to have handed them new deals.

The Verdict

It is fair to say that Leeds have made a great decision to secure the long-term futures of two members of their back four, with the defence as a collective having performed brilliantly so far this campaign after the set back of missing out on promotion last season.

Lastly, it does not come as a surprise that both players were keen to commit to new deals, particularly with Phillips doing the same earlier in the week, it shows that the player’s believe in Bielsa’s playing philosophy.

Now, it’s about helping the club to win promotion, with the club in a strong position to end their time outside the top-flight.
