Championship sides Leeds United, Hull City and Preston North End have joined Scottish clubs Celtic and Hearts in the race to sign Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor, according to the Bristol Post.
The striker scored 27 goals and set up another five to be named top scorer in his first season in the top four leagues of English football, to help his side gain back-to-back promotions, confirmed on the final day following a dramatic 2-1 win over relegated Dagenham & Redbridge.
Taylor is one of many players at the Memorial Stadium that find themselves out of contract at the club this summer, although it is not yet known how Darrell Clarke will approach next season personnel wise.
It is believed that Hearts are the best positioned club in this race, as they approached the player in January to sign him on a pre-contract basis.
However, nothing came of it and a host of clubs have paid attention to the fourth tier since, and you wouldn’t rule out more joining this pack.
It is also unknown whether the player will want to stay in the South West next season and help his team stay in the third tier.
Bristol Rovers fans, what do you think? Would you be devastated if he moves on, or would you be confident of your chances of staying up by replacing him? Let us know your opinions below!
