Leeds United have rejected two bids for maverick midfielder Samuel Saiz, according to reports from Spain.

The mercurial 27-year old is reported to have been the subject of bids by Getafe and Valencia.

The former are thought to have offered £6.2m, with the latter offering £9m, according to Edgar Navarro, a Spanish journalist with Sport Huesca.

Saiz began his career with Real Madrid, joining their youth team at just eight years old, but despite playing for their 'C' and 'B' teams, he failed to break through to the senior squad.

Spells with Melilla, Getafe, Atletico Madrid and followed, before a final move in Spain to SD Huesca. From there he secured his Leeds United move, joining last summer on a four-year deal.

He started 28 Championship games, scoring five, but was dogged by controversy. He was banned in January for spitting at a Newport County player in the FA Cup tie and failed to score once on his return to the side.

The Verdict

£9m is a lot of money, it's more than Peterborough want for Jack Marriott for instance and it is almost as much as Derby wanted for Matej Vydra.

There's a certain amount of risk connected with keeping Saiz and it seems as though Bielsa has chosen to roll the dice rather than cash in.

If he gets the playmaker in good form, £9m would potentially be peanuts. If he fails, then they'd struggle to get half of that in a year's time. It's a big call by the new manager.
