Scouting representatives from Leeds United were present at the Champions League fixture between Benfica and RB Leipzig last night.

Leeds have cast their net wide over recent years in terms of recruitment, with Victor Orta overseeing the process at Elland Road.

And, it appears that last night, Leeds’ scouts were in attendance at the Champions League fixture between Benfica and RB Leipzig, with Brazilian journalist Marcus Alves sharing an image of the scouting list from the game.

Representatives from Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham, along with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, joined scouts from Elland Road in watching the game.

The first group stage game from Group G finished 2-1 in Leipzig’s favour, with Timo Werner doing the damage against Benfica.

Whilst Leeds’ scouting network might’ve spread across Europe in the last three years, their summer recruitment was very domestic.

Jack Harrison, Helder Costa, Eddie Nketiah, Ben White and Jack Clarke all arrived on loan from the Premier League, whilst Illan Meslier was the only European arrival, joining from Lorient.

And, so far, that recruitment is paying off, as Leeds top the Championship after seven fixtures of the 2019/20 season.

The Verdict

For all the criticism directed at Orta during his first summer with Leeds, he’s actually transformed how the club scout players.

Leeds will leave no stone unturned when it comes to recruiting players, with the club even looking on the most high-profile stage, as is evident with this.

It isn’t clear who Leeds were looking at last night, but there were some good performers on show and plenty for scouts to consider.
