Leeds United have registered their interest in signing Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick according to Football Insider.
The report also claims that a number of Premier League and Championship clubs are also rivalling Leeds to McGoldrick’s signature this month.
The experienced Irishman played a key role in Sheffield United’s promotion into the Premier League last season, and scored 15 goals in that promotion-winning campaign.
But this season has been a difficult one for McGoldrick, who has had fierce competition for his starting spot in Chris Wilder’s squad.
He has made 18 appearances for the Blades in the top-flight this term, of which 15 were starts but is yet to find the back of the net this term, so he could be tempted by a move elsewhere in January’s transfer window.
Marcelo Bielsa will be keen to add some attacking depth to his squad in the near future after Arsenal decided to recall Eddie Nketiah from his loan spell with the Whites.
Leeds have also been linked with a move for Southampton’s Che Adams, but Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl has recently stated that the club have no intention of allowing the former Birmingham City striker to leave the club anytime soon.
This has led to Leeds seemingly turning their attentions elsewhere, with McGoldrick being one of the names linked with a move to Elland Road.
Can you name these Leeds United players’ shirt numbers?
I’m not sure how much truth there is likely to be in this recent rumour.
McGoldrick has a good record in the Championship, but I think there are better options out there for Leeds in January’s transfer window.
That’s by no means a dig at McGoldrick, but it would be some downgrade from having Nketiah and ending up with McGoldrick, who many will surely feel as though his best days are behind him.
