According to reports from the French publication L’Equipe, Montpellier centre-back William Remy could be on his way to the Championship and Leeds United before the transfer deadline passes.

The 26-year-old played 15 times for the French outfit during the 2016/17 campaign as Montpellier finished 15th in the table, just three points clear of relegation.

Enquiries have been made for the player's services by the club but no official offer has been sent to the club.

Should he sign, the French U19 international would become Thomas Christiansen’s 17th signing of what has been an extremely busy transfer window that has also seen plenty of departures from Elland Road.

With only hours to go until the transfer deadline, it could be a late night for both clubs and the player if this deal is to be completed.

The Verdict

Despite the sheer number of signings that have been made this summer by Leeds, they only have three players who are natural centre-backs.

Granted, some players will be able to play there if required but if Christiansen has the money to spend it would make sense to bring in another central defender to bolster that position in his squad.

United are clearly pushing for promotion this season and with a season as long as the Championship, squad depth can be the difference between going up and remaining in the division.
