Caleb Ekuban is still expected to seal a permanent departure away from Leeds United in the coming summer, with Trabzonspor ready to pay a seven-figure sum for the striker’s service.

Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa oversaw a big summer clear out ahead of last season, with Ekuban amongst those at Elland Road that were deemed surplus to requirements by the meticulous Argentine.

The striker linked up with Trabzonspor on a season-long loan, and he has impressed in Turkey, with eight goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.

And, the Yorkshire Evening Post note that the Super Lig side will pay a seven-figure sum to secure the service of the 25-year-old ahead of the new season.

Earlier in the month, the YEP reported that the fee for Ekuban would be somewhere in the region of £2m, with Leeds set to make a significant profit on the forward they only paid £500k for in the summer of 2017.

In 20 appearances during his only season in the Championship with Leeds, Ekuban scored one goal and failed to register an assist.

The Verdict

This is a big boost for Leeds and will help line their wallets ahead of an important summer at Elland Road.

Ekuban was a flop, so to learn that the club will be making around £1.5m profit on him is great news.

It is the type of deal that Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta need to close quickly to give Leeds the best chance of spending their profit wisely.
