Leeds United release statement regarding Garry Monk

Published

on

Leeds United have confirmed via an official club statement that manager Garry Monk has been charged, following the fallout during the game with Huddersfield Town earlier this month.

The club pleaded guilty to the FA charge of failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.

The game saw both Monk and Carvalhal clash on the touchline following a fiery 2-1 win for the Terriers.

Tempers weren’t aided off the pitch throughout the fiery clash either, with a provocative flag being unfurled in the home end at the John Smith’s Stadium, which angered a large number of travelling Leeds fans on the day too.

Leeds have subsequently been fined £10,000 whilst Garry Monk will serve a one-game touchline ban for improper conduct and has to pay a separate fine of £3000.

The club have confirmed Monk’s ban will be served during Friday’s away trip to Birmingham City, who will be buoyed by the news having secured a huge 2-1 win over local rivals Wolves last weekend.
