Ben White has impressed massively so far for Leeds since joining on loan from Brighton in the summer, and he is continuing to turn heads at the top-level.

The 22-year-old signed on a season-long loan from the Seagulls as a replacement for the departed Pontus Jansson, who left on a permanent deal to Brentford in the summer. Many were originally underwhelmed with this replacement, with Jansson being one of the top centre-backs in the league and White yet to play at this level in his career. However, since then many have forgotten about the departed centre-back due to an amazing start to life at Elland Road from White.

White has shown from the first game that he has what it takes to be a Premier League defender, with a great blend of strong defensive ability and confidence to play out as ‘modern’ centre-backs are required to.

His early performances for Leeds were solid enough for him to scoop up the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for August, amassing a whopping 44% of the vote. Since then, his performances haven’t wavered, showing great consistency in a defence prone to injuries and suspensions.

Thanks to White and those around him, Leeds boast the meanest defence in the league, with seven clean sheets and just eight goals conceded in 14 games. He will be hoping that this record remains so formidable in the games to come, to keep Leeds in the automatic promotion hunt for the second season running.

White’s outings for Leeds haven’t gone unnoticed from his parent club, Brighton. The Seagulls’ manager Graham Potter has watched White’s showings in a Leeds shirt and likes what he sees, insisting that he is very keen to keep the youngster in his squad after this season.

However, Brighton aren’t alone in their admiration of White, with Liverpool reportedly keeping tabs on him this season, whilst Football Insider claim Leeds could lose White to a recall in the winter window, fuelling further speculation this week.

White has shown the calmness required to play in a high-pressure scenario, something all-too-familiar at Elland Road regardless of the league position, but more so with promotion the only aim this season. The centre-back has got to know his role under Bielsa very quickly and has settled in very well so far alongside club-captain Liam Cooper, with the pair being very impressive together so far.

White and Leeds will be hoping that their current defensive form can continue as they head into a run of ‘favourable’ fixtures against six teams all in the bottom half.

From the defender’s perspective, it is imperative that speculation over his future does not affect his standards of performances, as it may scupper any chance he has to follow his ambitions of playing at the top level. His development under Bielsa should be at the forefront of his priorities and justifiably so with how he has both played and conducted himself in a Leeds shirt so far.
