Leeds United are locked in a transfer tussle to the potential signing of Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour on a loan deal according to London Football News.

It remains to be seen as to whether the midfielder will be available on loan, but it seems as though the Scotsman has caught the eye with his recent showings.

Gilmour has impressed with the Premier League side since he moved to Stamford Bridge in 2017 from Scottish giants Rangers.

In an interview with BBC Scotland, Gilmour hinted that his short-term future could be away from Chelsea, with the midfielder considerably far down the pecking order in the first team setup.

"I need to play more first-team games, at Chelsea or maybe out on loan.

"I need to get more experience. I’m training with the first team a lot and I’ve made a couple of appearances, so I can only get better if I keep going the way I have been."

Leeds could certainly benefit from having a player of Gimour's creative ability in their side, as they look to win promotion back into the Premier League this season.

There has been a weight of expectation on Pablo Hernandez's shoulders to provide the creative spark for Leeds going forward, but you can never have enough creativity in a team.

It would be Gilmour's first loan spell of his professional career, but it could be worth the punt for Leeds, who are seemingly keen to add strength in depth in the January transfer window.

The Verdict:

This could be an excellent signing for the Whites if they can pull it off.

Gilmour has really impressed me with the Chelsea youth teams this season, and I'm not surprised to see him featuring under Frank Lampard already this season.

He could be exactly the type of player to take the creative burden off of Pablo Hernandez going forward as Leeds look to win promotion back into the Premier League.
